Small Watershed Program
General Description: This program is administered by the Environmental Protection Agency and provides technical and financial assistance to help solve problems within small watersheds related, but not limited, to flooding, erosion and sediment damage, conservation, development, utilization and disposal of water, improvement of fish and wildlife habitat, recreation uses, and water supply.
Eligible Applicants: This program is eligible to any state agency, county, municipality, soil and water conservation district, or any other nonprofit agency authorized under state law to maintain or improve watersheds.
Program Requirements: Applications must meet the following criteria:
- The watershed must meet the requirements of the law.
- An approved watershed plan must be prepared.
- Strong local support for the project.
- The project must demonstrate environmental, economic, and social benefits.
- No critical environmental issues exist.
Available Funds: Funds are appropriated from the USDA to every state and the average financial assistance for an individual project is $650,000.
Deadlines: There are no specific deadlines. All applications must be done through the local Natural Resources Conservation Service Agency.

Urban and Community Forestry Financial Assistance Program
General Description: Designed to encourage citizen involvement in creating and supporting sustained urban and community forestry programs throughout the state.
Eligible Applicants: Local government, nonprofit organizations, neighborhood organizations, civic groups, or educational institutions.
Program Requirements: Review criteria is based on demonstrated need, goal oriented projects, financial commitment and management, and partnerships. A 50% local cash match is required on all projects. Funding varies from year-to-year.
Eligible Activities: Eligible projects include tree ordinances, greenspace management, tree inventories, and educational programs.
